From one extreme to the next, British weather certainly has its own personality.
Just wait a few minutes and it’ll change on you!
Here’s our hot tips to keep your head cool and everything running smoothly on the big wedding day.
1. Make a backup plan
Talk to your wedding venue and photographer to create back up plans to suit your time of year. If your wedding is in the summer, consider the heat and short showers. Whatever time of year it is, rain is always a possibility. If you’re having an outdoor event without any cover think about alternative areas.
Scout out areas with your photographer for those all-important snaps and check with your venue which areas you can use as they may always have some helpful hints. It’s good to have a mixture of areas, covered and open, so you’re prepared for heat, cold, rain and whatever else the weather may throw at you!
2. Hair & Make-up
Rain or sweat, a shiny bride isn’t usually ideal! (unless you’ve gone for that popular dewy skin look) Finding the right hairdresser & makeup artist can relieve any worry if you’re planning an outdoor wedding.
An experienced hairdresser/makeup artist will know how to primp and preen you perfectly to stand up to the weather. Chat to your photographer on the best ways to get the shots you want while not letting the weather get the best of you.
3. Extra Essentials
Emergency items to keep on hand, stashed away with your bridesmaids is the perfect place to keep blotting papers, bobby pins, hairspray and anti-frizz serums as well as any makeup for some quick touch ups.
You can also think about any handy weather essentials.
Large umbrellas, heel protectors, hand warmers and blankets are great additions to have on hand for the colder months. In the summer heat, think about sunscreen, water and fans – spare sunglasses are a great addition for anyone caught without!
4. Coat Check
Your guests have arrived wrapped up to the nines! They’ve braved the weather outside and battled their way to celebrate your special day.
Arrange a coat check and they’ll thank you as they can offload with ease and make their way to the dance floor without the worry and baggage of wet coats, umbrellas or any winter accessories.
If it’s raining or snowing, ask your venue about providing an all-weather mat at any entrances so guests can wipe their shoes. The venue will thank you for keeping the wet at bay.
5. Check your local forecast
As the day draws near keep an eye on the forecast so you can make any last minute amendments.
6. Food & Drink
Good weather or bad, what you serve your guests can help manage its effects. Ice cream and cool drinks go a long way to chill a sweltering crowd, whilst hot chocolate, s’mores, warming drinks and food will help defrost your guests. 
7. Picking the date
As you plan your wedding think about the season you love and want to use to help encapsulate your day. Check previous weather reports for your date – while it’s no promise for the day it can be a good indicator of what you should prepare for.
Whatever the weather, don’t let it dampen your day! Preparation will help the day run smoothly but staying flexible means you can deal with any last minute surprises.
8. Prepare for all Conditions
Even with all the preparation in the world, we don't have any say over what the weather will do! If you can, prepare for all conditions. It would be lovely for your guests to have the option to go both indoors & outdoors at your wedding venue (if that's an option). You could arrange for fire pits and blankets for the evening in case it gets chilly.
And remember, even if you do end up getting rained on, it's not the end of the world. You and your partner are getting married surrounded by friends and family, and no amount of bad weather can change this.
