The Town Head Estate, which hugs the southern tip of Lake Windermere, dates back to the 1400s. In 2019 the property was bought by the current owners, who have lovingly restored the Estate to its former glory in order to open the doors to offer you the most beautiful and unique wedding destination in the Lake District.

From Spring 2021, we are delighted to offer our newly renovated yet traditional stone bank Wedding Barn to provide what we consider to be the ultimate wedding venue. On the lower level, a large gravelled courtyard gives access to a super stylish bar with separate lounge area and beautiful views over the gardens and grounds. The upper ground floor comprises two beautiful spaces which are flooded with natural light, with oak floors, exposed stone walls and beautiful roof beams, providing you with complete flexibility.



Town Head is also host to a beautiful Victorian boathouse on the lake shore with its own shingle beach and a gorgeous day room above which can be used in all sorts of ways. The Boat House is licensed to hold weddings and civil ceremonies and would seat up to 40 comfortably for a ceremony. Alternatively, should you wish to hold an outdoor ceremony for larger numbers (weather permitting, and perhaps in conjunction with a Lakeside Marquee or Tipi), you could hold your wedding ceremony outside by the lake and then simply pop in to the Boat House with your witnesses for the legal signing.

We are lucky here in the Lake District to have many outstanding local caterers who are able to source quality local produce to provide all kinds of different styles of catering. We are happy to provide recommendations for caterers should you wish.

With luxury on-site accommodation for the bride and groom and a further nine bedrooms for your guests, Town Head gives you the opportunity to plan a wedding that almost feels like the start of your honeymoon.

And getting to Town Head couldn’t be easier. We are just a 20 minute drive from Junction 36 of the M6. For those travelling by train, Oxenholme Station is a similar distance and about 2 hours 40 minutes from London.
