Smeetham Hall Barn is a typically English, 16th Century building that has been lovingly converted and tastefully decorated to create the most romantic wedding venue in Essex. Licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies, our venue and grounds will offer any happy couple a stunning location to begin married life - a memorable reception, incredible photo opportunities and service so friendly you will feel as though our home has become yours.

Since 1906, Smeetham Hall has been home to the Hyde Parker family. Now, our family would like to warmly welcome yours to join us for your wedding day. Our wedding venue is located in Bulmer, a charming village on the border between Essex and Suffolk, close to Sudbury and Long Melford and an hour’s journey from London. Couples from all over Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Kent have married at Smeetham Hall Barn, as well as couples from further afield who want a rural barn wedding venue near London.

Whilst we are considered one of the best wedding venues in Essex, Smeetham Hall is also home to a working farm. We have around 400 acres of land and simply by choosing to hold your wedding with us, you will be supporting our efforts to farm as naturally and un-intensively as possible. Our fields are surrounded by thick hedgerows and our meadows are sown with wild flowers and grasses; your wedding day will be nestled amongst all of this lush greenery and natural beauty.

At Smeetham Hall Barn, you are free to tailor your experience to your own style and requirements. You can join us for the whole day – with a wedding or civil ceremony followed by a reception in our Barn (or gardens in summer) and permanent marquee. Or, you can marry nearby at church and join us later for the reception. However you decide to plan your big day, when you and your guests step inside Smeetham Hall Barn, you will be transported to a magical world of beauty, splendour and romance.
