Houchins is an elegant and comfortable Grade II* Listed farmhouse with a rich history dating back to the 15th century. Houchins prides itself on being one of the most original wedding venues in Essex with luxurious, listed accommodation for the bridal party and a lovingly-restored wedding barn designed in a unique modern style. You will have exclusive-use of the whole venue for your special day.

Situated just off the A120 near Coggeshall, Houchins is hidden away and set in its own peaceful, landscaped grounds. The zinc and cedar shingle barn is nestled in the wedding garden, surrounded by abundant plants and flowers. Huge glass folding double-doors open onto an expansive west-facing terrace, bringing the outside in, with wonderful views of the elegant marquee and pond.

There are several areas to hold ceremonies for up to 150 people. The Foundry and Grainstore are the biggest indoor spaces, while the wood-panelled drawing room in the house is a more intimate setting. Outside, couples can tie the knot in the marquee or the Woodland Wedding area.

For post-vow celebrations, couples will love the restored Wedding Barn which has three interconnecting spaces. These three spaces allow the day to flow seamlessly starting with reception drinks in the bar and on the terrace, followed by the wedding breakfast in the dining area with its 35 ft high ceiling, fireplace and mezzanine area, before ending the festivities in the dance barn.

At Houchins, we know how important it is to have a caterer that you feel completely comfortable with. Therefore we have carefully pre-selected three excellent local caterers all with slightly different styles. We ask you to use one of our preferred caterers for all events at Houchins because we know from past performance they will deliver to the high standard we expect.

There is also the Grade II* Listed renovated farmhouse which sleeps up to 16 guests both before and after the big day and there's a separate Honeymoon Lodge adjacent to the farmhouse, offering complete privacy and added luxury for the newlyweds who can spend their first night here as a married couple. Beautifully decorated, the Lodge will provide the perfect setting in which to unwind after your wedding celebrations! For other guest accommodation nearby, there is a range of B&Bs and hotels within close proximity.

Houchins is just 1 mile east of Coggeshall, with direct access from the A120. It is approximately 15 minutes from Colchester and Braintree, 35 minutes from Stansted Airport and 1hr 20 minutes from Central London providing easy access for guests travelling from near or far.
