About

Hodsock Priory is a magnificent 19th Century country house, set in 800 acres of private estate on the edge of Sherwood Forest. Situated near the village of Blyth, on the Nottinghamshire/South Yorkshire border, the secluded estate is renowned for its seasonal, flowering gardens and iconic Tudor gatehouse. Hodsock Priory has a rich heritage, having once entertained four English kings including Henry VIII.

At Hodsock Priory, we only ever host one wedding at a time so on your special day, it’s all about you. When you hire the venue, you can enjoy exclusive-use of the house and garden for you and your guests. You can enjoy complete privacy in a spectacular setting with unrivalled hospitality. Style your ceremony and celebrations in any way you like – whether your taste is traditional or quirky, formal or relaxed.

After approaching through the archway of Nottinghamshire’s last remaining Grade 1 listed Tudor gatehouse, you enter the house through our oak panelled entrance hall. This stunning room is where traditional, contemporary and informal ceremonies usually take place. It is adorned with family portraits and elegant wallpaper. The high windows frame views of the North Lawn and Hodsock’s formal gardens. Entering the Panelled Hall you immediately feel like you’ve arrived in a proper country house. It’s a welcoming room, not intimidating like many stately homes.

Or for those seeking a traditional ceremony, it is possible to marry at the lovely church in Blyth village, which can seat up to 140 guests and is our nearest parish church, just two miles from Hodsock.

Wedding receptions at Hodsock Priory range from intimate get-togethers to big family knees ups. The wedding reception usually takes place in the Pavilion, Bar and Ante-Room. Our light and airy contemporary Bar opens out onto the Italian Terrace – a delightful feature in summer, for drinks receptions and canapés
overlooking the Fan Lawn and lake.

The newly refurbished Pavilion is a refined dining and entertainment room. It is simple and elegant with stunning views across the landscaped gardens by day but atmospheric with customisable mood lighting at night. We've created a sophisticated blank canvas that can be tailored, dressed and themed as you choose.

Getting the food right is an important part of any event. We take our gastronomy seriously and have a growing reputation as a fine food venue. We have 6 different canape menus, four wedding breakfast menus and a selection of evening food for you to choose from - exquisitely crafted to suit every budget and personal taste. You are welcome to mix and match across the different menus - just ask!

Our fine gardens remain nurtured throughout the year and the spring and summer blooms are picture perfect. The river runs from the lake through the grounds and our pretty bridges are a great feature joining the lawns and woodland areas.

Hodsock Priory is an exquisite place to stay with three bedroom suites in the main house. The Courtyard, our converted dairy annexe, has ten additional stylish apartments and is just a short walk away from the house. The house bedrooms are typically reserved for the wedding couple and their closest guests. The Courtyard apartments are popular with families and guests seeking a little peace and quiet away from the celebrations within the house.

Hodsock’s close proximity to the A1 means that finding us is easy - even though we’re in a secluded location. The local train station at Retford is well connected for regional and national travel. The East Coast line operates here meaning London is under 90 minutes away. There is ample, free parking on the Hodsock estate for guests travelling by car.
