Brilliant Boat Wedding Venues

27th October 2021

This one isn’t for the couples prone to seasickness! Weddings on boats have been understated for too long.

So we've decided to write an a blog showcasing four beautiful, elegant and historic wedding venues where you begin your married life by setting sail across the seven seas.

HMS BELFAST

Starting our list off strong with this world-famous ship. HMS Belfast is a perfect one for the history buffs out there, as the most significant surviving ship from the Second World War Royal Navy. She has fired shots at D-Day, spending 33 days in Normandy and serving in the Korean War, with a lifespan of 83 years and counting.

Now preserved in all her traditional naval glory and the rooms maintaining their original splendour, HMS Belfast is the ultimate wedding destination if you’re looking for something a little different in London.

With a welcoming atmosphere, first class hospitality and a team of amazing chefs, a wedding aboard this incredible warship will be one you’ll never forget. No space can rival those iconic views in the backdrop, showcasing London Bridge, the Gherkin and the Tower of London among many more. Become a part of history when you exchange your vows on board.

THE DOCKYARD CHATHAM

Moving over to Kent, the Dockyard Chatham offers two unique ceremony venues and memorable receptions. This 400 year old Dockyard is complete with ships, beautiful architectural buildings and incredible gardens to give you a variety of choices on your big day.

With options to get married both inside or outside, using The Commissioner’s House & HMS Gannet, this entire site provides a truly unique setting for ceremony, reception and photographs alike.

HMS Gannet is a wonderful Victorian sloop that offers exclusive use, fantastic photo opportunities and reception drinks on board. Any seasick guests can jump off and head inside, making it the perfect option for a boat wedding.

BRUNEL’S SS GREAT BRITAIN

Tie the knot aboard one of Bristol’s most romantic and elegant wedding venues. The SS Great Britain is the perfect venue for your wedding ceremony, reception and evening party. With versatile spaces both above and below deck, let us help make your dream wedding come true on board one of the world’s great historic ships and ensure that you have memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and launched in 1843, the beautifully restored ship lies in the heart of Bristol’s harbourside and offers some of the most spectacular views in the region. SS Great Britain was the world’s first great ocean liner, described as ‘the greatest experiment since creation’ when she first launched.

At almost 30 metres in length, with mirrors and wooden flooring the promenade deck makes for a glamorous and unique aisle for you to exchange your vows.

HMS UNICORN

For our final boat feature, we traverse up to Scotland for the amazing HMS Unicorn. This is not only Scotland’s oldest ship, but the third oldest ship afloat! Built for the Royal Navy in 1824 after the naval wars against Napoleon ended, she is a rare survivor from the days of sail. Her lack of active duty has allowed the ship to be preserved to such a beautiful standard.

Now available for private hire, this ship provides a memorable venue for your special event as one of the few remaining wooden warships from the ‘Golden Age of Sail’. Licensed for weddings, this is a highly unique wedding venue where you can step back in time.
