Within easy reach of Oxford, London, the M40, and the M4, this 17th-century manor house is set in mature, landscaped grounds enclosed by the remaining arms of a 15th-century moat. Friars Court operates exclusively as a ceremony-only venue, offering something truly distinctive.

With as few restrictions as possible, Friars Court is happy to host ceremonies of all sizes, from intimate gatherings with just a handful of guests to larger celebrations held during a peak-season Saturday afternoon.

History

Founded in 1149 as the first Hospitaller in Oxfordshire by the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, Friars Court became a private residence following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 1530s. Much of the house as it appears today dates from major alterations carried out in 1650. After passing through a succession of owners and tenants, the estate was purchased by Richard Willmer in 1920, and his grandson, Charles, resides in the house today.

Couples may choose from a variety of beautiful garden locations, including a romantic gazebo by the moat, a large wooden pergola on the lawn, the cherry tree when in blossom, or the ever-popular Rose Arbour. Each setting offers its own character and provides a stunning, photogenic backdrop for a truly memorable outdoor ceremony.

Garden Room
In the event of inclement weather, Friars Court offers the Garden Room as an indoor back-up option, with a maximum seating capacity of 60 guests. The room features large windows overlooking the grounds and a partially glazed roof, ensuring a light and airy atmosphere even on the dullest days. Its neutral décor provides a versatile canvas to complement any decorations or colour scheme.
