Staying Sane On Your Wedding Day
20th October 2021

Weddings can be magical, romantic, unforgettable; celebrating with all your closest family and friends on one of the biggest days of your life… and also one of the most stressful!
It’s not easy to plan a wedding, with so many different components to juggle.
Did the flowers arrive?
Did the photographer remember their camera?
Whose got the rings?
Has the groom's ex crashed the wedding?
Is grandma already drunk?
Phew - it’s exhausting just to think about!
That’s why we at Amazing Space Weddings have compiled a list to help keep your big day a happy one! Take a look at our top tips for staying sane on your wedding day.

1. Take in your wedding venue
An easy one - just look around you! You’ve chosen the perfect place to celebrate, somewhere spectacularly beautiful that you’ve been dreaming of. Whether it be a barn, a hotel, a restaurant, a coastal resort or woodland in the middle of nowhere, your venue has a certain magic to it. This is a space that you feel comfortable in, representing the love that you have for your partner. Breathe it all in and feel the calm wash over you.
Still feeling a bit stressed? All these venues are looked after by friendly teams who are ready and waiting to help you at a moment's notice. Your wish is their command.

2. Early Bird Gets The Worm (or a good night's sleep!)
There is nothing a bit of sleep can’t fix. The night before your wedding, put your eye mask on a little earlier than usual. You’ll probably be feeling a bit nervous, so give yourself the time to relax and get some rest. Many of our wedding venues have some pretty stellar accommodation for you, with beds you can simply sink into. Put your phone with your to-do list to one side, and put yourself first.

3. Keep Your Friends Close

Maybe it's an obvious sentiment, but make sure you spend the run up to your wedding with your loved ones who you know will do anything for you on your big day. Don’t bundle all the stress up in your brain - let it out and let your family and friends reassure you that everything will run smoothly.
You won’t be a bride/groomzilla just because you’re looking for some support. Delegate out the important jobs amongst your team to keep you calm.
4. Get Your Heart Racing

No, we don’t mean that in a romantic, lock-eyes-with-your-partner sort of way. One of the best ways to help calm anxiety is a bit of exercise to burn off that nervous energy. Don’t fancy a jog or some weight lifting right before you walk down the aisle? A bit of yoga and deep breathing is enough to loosen up your muscles and drain that adrenaline. See what your venue has on offer as well - a quick horse ride or dance in the ballroom would work just as well.
5. Eat & Drink
Don’t fill up too much, (you’ve got an amazing feast waiting for you at the reception!) but it is important to have a light meal to calm those butterflies. This will help get rid of any nauseous feelings you’ve got floating around.

Staying hydrated is at the top of the list. That doesn’t include downing a shot (although we can’t say we frown on this - liquid courage anyone?) Herbal teas and water are perfect at keeping you cool and collected.
6. Stay Connected with Your Partner
Who came up with that silly rule about not seeing each other before you walk down the aisle? Sure, it might be romantic - but who else would you rather see when you’re a bundle of nerves than your fiance?

Keep in touch with them in the lead up to the ceremony - if you want to stick to tradition, send some texts, exchange a few phone calls, speak through a few closed doors. There is no one who knows what you’re going through more than the person who’ll also be saying ‘I Do’.
7. Write it All Down
Stress and anxiety can make us completely irrational, worrying about the smallest of things and blowing it totally out of proportion. Things go wrong all the time and no one notices. The best way to keep yourself on top of all this, to stop yourself going crazy over every little thing, is to write it all down!

By doing so, you can express all the emotions you are keeping bottled up. Seeing it written out in front of you to read out loud can be a great way to see how inconsequential these worries are.
8. Pamper Yourself
A particularly handy tip if you’ve chosen a wedding venue with a spa, but don’t worry - anyone can indulge! Put on a face mask, have a hot bubble bath and badger a bridesmaid for a head massage (it's what they're there for!) Let the stress melt away.

9. Allow Yourself to Worry
This is a big day that you’ve put a lot of planning into - it’s ok to get nervous in the run up! If you try to ignore the stress in the hope it’ll just go away without tackling it, it will only get worse. Let yourself feel worried and take our advice to calm yourself down.
It's normal and healthy to question everything, from the chairs to your partner at the height of things. This doesn’t mean you don’t want to get married - quite the opposite really. Excitement and fear can come hand in hand for such a big commitment. One day of stress, for a lifetime of happiness (and evening celebrations that will make you forget it all!)
