PCR tests, Amber Lists, Pingdemics, Isolations… Lockdown may be over, but hitting the beach in the sunshine abroad is still a struggle for most of us. It’s hard to plan a honeymoon when the rules to get away seem so murky.

The UK is filled to the brim with leisurely spa breaks. As you lounge from sauna to sauna, you’ll wonder why you ever considered splashing the cash on flights away. The pièce de résistance? You’ll never have to travel far for the perfect spa, with stunning spots up and down the country!

Stuck isolating? Don’t worry, because we still have you covered. Up your couples massage game with this handy guide, turn down the lights and get the scented candles going. Still feeling down? There isn’t much a face mask can’t cure, and we don't mean the medical kind. Make one using ingredients right out of your cupboard; soothe your skin with 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, a ¼ of a ripe avocado and a drop of lavender and…voilà! You’ve got yourself a mask that would rival any facial you’d find in a spa.
Country Getaways
The UK countryside has been underestimated for too long. Holidaying at home has increased in popularity thanks to the pandemic, and it’s time to stop delaying the honeymoon and embrace some British beauties.
From high tea in the cosy Cotswolds (pictured above), to a romantic stroll in the picturesque Lake District, to a couples hike at the dramatic Isle of Skye (pictured below)… the opportunities are endless when it comes to the versatile beautiful UK countryside, each spot as unique and intimate as the next. Ditch the hassle of going abroad - these are the kind of getaways you won’t forget, centred around you and your partner.
Buzzing Beaches
This may sound all well and good, but maybe what you’ve been dreaming of after a year trapped inside is the perfect beach getaway, the sun on your face and the sand on your back, your newlywed on the sunbed beside you.
We might not be able to guarantee the sunshine, but don’t discount the UK coastline for your honeymoon (or even your wedding venue) just yet! I’m not talking about the busy and overcrowded beaches of Brighton that crop up in clickbait news articles. No, I’m talking crystal clear waters and a totally tranquil time. Consider Blackpool Sands, where you drive through pine trees reminiscent of the Amalfi coast to bring you to the beach with astonishing clear water. Or, pop over to Sennen Cove (pictured below) in Cornwall, where mermaids were believed to have frequented the deep blue waters (in reality, it turned out to be dolphins who still like to hop around the waves, but we can keep dreaming).
If these spots still aren’t giving you that hazy mediterrianian vibe, take a trip over to some of the Channel Islands (you might have better luck with the weather too!) Visit Jersey’s St Brelade’s beach (pictured below), lying just 12 nautical miles off the coast of France, or St Aubin’s Bay where you can hire a jet-ski for you and your partner to enjoy.
City Stays
Take a road trip around the UK’s hottest cities on offer for your honeymoon. You’ll be enjoying a getaway guaranteed to have history, culture and fantastic food, all with that extra bit of perfection of doing it with the love of your life. Spend time in Scottish spots like Glasgow and Edinburgh (Edinburgh Castle pictured below), touring amazing architecture and gorgeous outdoor spaces; these cities continue to flourish with creativity no matter what.
Hit up Bristol and Bath on your romantic trip, with a range of delicious cafes and restaurants, as well as tremendous history. If you’re looking to honeymoon in August, make sure you don’t miss Bristol's spectacularly romantic Hot Air Balloon Festival (pictured below). Combine your road trip with a spa-break at Bath, with Britain’s only natural thermal spa. Keep your momentum going at the world-renowned Cambridge - this isn’t just the spot for academics, but romantics too - something had to inspire those scholars!
Last but not least, spend a weekend in the capital, with London offering any activity a newly-wed could dream of. Romantic pottery? Check. Couples Massage? Check. See the sunrise over the city? Check (Hampstead Heath wins this one).
This post-lockdown life certainly isn’t the easiest when it comes to planning a honeymoon, but remember there is something for everyone right at the backdrop. Bora Bora who?
